A classic fluorite locality known for its honey colored crystals, such specimens are USA classics today. Clay Center (Stoneco Quarry) is a well-known US locality that features a classic association of Fluorite crystals intergrown with blades of Celestine. The honey-colored Fluorites range from light to dark, which mirrors the gemminess and translucence. The largest Fluorite is 2.6 cm, and the cluster of Fluorites is intergrown with several white blades of Celestine up to 2 cm. The Fluorites from Clay Center are known to have fluorescence with wide-ranging colors between specimens. In this case, under LW the crystals glow a soft orange-white that is most attractive. Looking straight into the faces, the fluorescence brings out dramatic amounts of zoning within the crystals. You can tell that there is some zoning in the Fluorites by variations in color and gemminess, but under LW the fluorescent zoning ranges from widespread and cubic in the cores to exquisitely sharp fluorescent bands.
