German Fluorites tend to have a distinct and attractive look to them. Often in full clusters with yellow and purple/blue coloration, the Fluorites most commonly have a nice satin luster that gives the crystals visual texture. The historic, extinct, polymetallic-U-Fluorite mines of the Frohnau area in the renowned Erzgebirge are famous for such rich specimens. However, this magnificent German Fluorite takes it to a distinctly higher level of quality. In this large-cabinet cluster, the intergrown Fluorite cubes are HUGE, reaching up to a mind-boggling 6.7 cm on edge, which is significant for the locality. Additionally, rather than having a satin luster, the crystals are glassy and transparent, which really highlights the GEMMY interiors and uniform, golden-amber color. An unexpected bonus is that this fluoresces hot red in shortwave UV light, and moderate orange-purple in long wave fluorescence. The internal patterning and details are so abundant that even a minimal amount of incidental light makes these crystals jump visually and sparkle on the "skin" in a way that large cubes generally do not. Glorious and large, this is clearly one of the best Fluorites I have seen from this historic old silver and cobalt mine that was worked intermittently from the 1700s until after World War II. Provided with a custom lucite base for upright, safe display.
