These are strange, transparent, pastel colored crystals of fluorite that might have been trying to form as cubes or octahedrons, but all have unusual growth distortions that make them look "melted" and organic! Ojuela, one of Mexico's, and the world's, great mines, has produced any number of important species and specimens. However, Fluorites are a prime example of a common mineral that is for some reason rare in a productive mine and so we seldom see good display quality specimens from here. Some, not nearly all, Ojuela Fluorites having the exceptional characteristic of fluorescing a stunning orange-red color. The most famous of them are from a small series of finds circa 2010, from which this came (and it DOES have this unusual coloration under UV light). On this fine cabinet piece the Fluorites grow within and on a brecciated gossan matrix. GEMMY, colorless-to-light blue, and lustrous, the Fluorite crystals (up to 3.5 cm) are highly modified and resemble melting ice cubes. Each crystal is slightly different in appearance, but they all have some mix of these great traits. The contrast between the Fluorites and the matrix add to the excellent aesthetics and quality.
