Among England's numerous and famous Fluorite localities, the Hilton Mine in Cumbria stands out for its distinctive golden-yellow crystals both for the UK and for the world as a whole. These are among the most distinct and recognizable of all Fluorite. This fine and large, small-cabinet sized cluster has Fluorites up to 2.4 cm on edge, and they display beautifully, like single monuments on the Fluorite matrix. Such outstanding individuality gives the crystals and the piece great charisma, and this is one of the most distinctive display habits for the Hilton. The crystals look like golden ice cubes. Interestingly, there is a small amount of Hematite in the matrix, and the major Fluorites are so clear that they seemingly absorb and reflect that coloration internally. Adding to the appeal are the penetration twins, which are one of the most beautiful and aesthetic of Fluorite's habits. And of course, the crystals have an intense purple fluorescence, which should be expected since the term 'fluorescence' is derived from the English Fluorites. Collected in 1978 by, and in the renowned collection of, M.A. (Mick) Sutcliffe, this is a fine, large, quality example for the well-known Hilton Mine. Purchased from Lindsay Greenbank for the well-known English suite of the Liebetrau collection.
