This is a very well-formed, miniature size Spodumene crystal from Oxford County, Maine circa late 1800s or early 1900s. When we think of Spodumene crystals the giant crystals in pegmatite exposures of the modern era come to mind. However, this is just a perfect, small, textbook example of the species that we rarely ever see in this size class; from a historic locality. The early mineralogists identified Spodumene from such crystals. It is off-white to almost ivory in color with sharp edges and well-developed faces that are fairly lustrous. It also has a small, 1 cm sidecar crystal at the base in the front. Both crystals have a distinct shimmer to them. Excellent for the species and the size!
