We see plenty of really fine, shapely individual crystals of Aquamarine, the blue variety of Beryl, but the numbers seen on matrix reduce dramatically, and to get the perfect balance of just the right proportion of matrix, but also with aesthetic balance is exceptionally rare. This small cabinet-sized display specimen does, I think, achieve this and I hope you agree. Its centerpiece, its crowning glory, is a 6.1 cm tall extremely glassy, pale blue Aquamarine crystal, but its presence is amplified by its width, giving it a more substantial feel, but also its quality of termination, with a flat pinacoid face, but with many sloping edge modifications providing added complexity and wonder. This magnificent crystal rises up from an island of Feldspar, Muscovite mica and Schorl crystals with a colourless Fluorapatite crystal nestled alongside its base. Internally, the Aquamarine crystal is bright and transparent, but filled with wispy inclusions which reflect light internally and provide a mystical effect. The edges of the Aquamarine crystal are in exceptional condition and no repairs are recorded. Even the beige-coloured Feldspar crystals exude class, with their excellent orthorhombic form with 'molten' naturally etched sides. The large, colourless Fluorapatite crystal is classy too, and is so large and glassy that it could trick one into believing that it is a Topaz instead. A world-class, museum quality display matrix Aquamarine specimen. It is from Minas Gerais, the famous centuries-old gemstone-mining state in Brazil, but beyond that we cannot be more specific.
