It is remarkable how rarely we see co-joined prismatic doubly-terminated Elbaite tourmaline crystals, from anywhere, let alone strikingly colourful ones. This remarkable specimen from the famous pegmatites at Paprok in Nuristan Province, Afghanistan is like a couple embracing. Bi-colour, the crystals present the classic pale bubblegum pink and lime-green combination for which Paprok is famed. Both crystals are terminated at one end (the pink end) with perfectly flat pinacoid faces and at the other, with their short green tip, showing classic sloping faces. At 9 cm in length. one crystal is very slightly longer than the other. Joined along their entire length, they diverge slightly at their base (flat end), rapidly merging and terminating in green with a tight intergrowth. Fine, but not overly deep, vertical crystal striations classic to tourmalines are seen along the length of both crystals. In exceptional condition, this is a dramatic, almost artistic tourmaline arrangement. Ex Jesse Fisher and Joan Kureczka Collection.
