Such is the rarity of perfect uncut gem quality Emerald crystals on matrix that those from Colombia are becoming increasingly more and more expensive to obtain. China is not blessed with major gem-mineral deposits, but the Dayakou Emerald mine situated quite near to the border with Vietnam in Malipo County, Wenshan Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan Province, China has, since the earliest years of the 21st century, produced some respectable Beryl var. Emerald crystals. This fine miniature matrix specimen features several very richly coloured emerald-green crystals, although it is not clear if the largest, at 2.4 cm in length, is a single fractured crystal, or three separate crystals grown in tandem perfectly alligned. With a great hexagonal form, the prismatic crystal, which has been repaired, lies slightly elevated across the surface of the rock matrix, allowing three sides to be observed. Not especially gemmy (although very few Chinese Emeralds are), their colour is very good and although there are internal fractures, the Emerald crystals are very well-formed and present extremely well in comparison to most other Chinese Emerald mineral specimens we see on the market.
