The Mawi Pegmatite in Nuristan Province is one of the three most famous gem-tourmaline producing areas in Afghanistan, the other two being Paprok and Dara-i-Pech. With a distinctive bi-colour soft pink and pale peppermint green, this miniature-size, single, short, squat, terminated prismatic Elbaite crystal is gemmy internally, with an unusually frosted three-sided pyramidal termination. With superb transparency, tiny internal fractures reflect light in a myriad of directions. The crystal base is a fracture surface upon which it sits nicely, but everything else about this crystal is pristine, in superb condition as a stunning smaller gem tourmaline crystal for display.
