A gorgeous and rich historic specimen with intense, magenta crystals of Erythrite on matrix from the Type Locality for the species, the Daniel Mine, Schneeberg, Saxony, Germany! This old find, from the mid-1800s has always set the standard for the species for sheer color and luster, even though smaller than the larger, more contemporary finds in Morocco. These gorgeous, vibrant magenta sprays of crystals, to 7 mm, exemplify the best of those qualities from here, especially on a contrasting, Goethite-stained drusy Quartz matrix. There must be two dozen of the brightly colored, fairly well isolated sprays on the drusy surface as well as hidden and protected in small vugs on the front of this attractive piece. A few, small old labels with locality information and specimen numbers are found on the piece which also has a flat, sawn bottom from many years ago. The specimen is almost certainly from the 1800s; and many of the classics in the Seel collection were obtained when Paul Seel bought from the huge European collections being brought over to the USA for sale in the early 1900s by a number of East Coast based dealerships.
