This is a very fine, robust and rare, 1800s-era Pyromorphite miniature from the classic Wheatley Mines in Chester County, Pennsylvania. It is a very colorful and showy piece with crystals 2 to 5 mm that are in good condition, however, several have been compromised. The color is a rich dark olive green with great luster and many of the crystals show hoppered growth and are partially hollow in the center. These rich green crystals are slightly striated and richly cover the display face, and even the matrix is fine-grained Pyromorphite as can be seen on the bottom of the piece. These hexagonal prismatic crystals are largely standing up and in random orientation. It is a beautiful Pennsylvania Pyromorphite from historic finds, now long gone. We only see these for sale, generally, when old or museum collections turn over to market.
