An unusual specimen of Zircon from the old Freeman Mine in Tuxedo, North Carolina. This fine, mocha colored crystal has just a hint of violet in the right lighting and measures 3.3 cm in length and width and exhibits a glassy a luster. It is complete with only some contacting at the bottom where it was intergrown with other Zircons and their negative crystal impressions are very evident. There's a little bit of intergrowth with some off-white Feldspar and a trace of iron staining that provides some color contrast. This is one of those old eastern U.S.A. pieces that is rarely seen, let alone with this sharpness and luster. Very unique! Circa late 1800s or early 1900s, when Paul Seel was active as a collector.
