Despite Arizona having produced a wealth of fine crystallized Azurite, great specimens tend to be restricted to a handful of mines. Bluebird mine in the Globe-Miami Mining District in Gila County was not a well-known source of good crystals, but this miniature specimen from Paul Matt's collection shows that it wasn't just colourful stains, but crystals too. The Bluebird mine open pit was active during the 1960s through until the early 1980s when it was incorporated within the larger Inspiration mine, suggesting that this piece was collected over 50 years ago. We really don't see many specimens preserved from there, making this a very fine example for the collector of localities. Although the crystals are not perfect in form, they are very deep blue and with a fine resinous lustre, showing that this is very pure crystallized Azurite.
