Long known as one of the premier garnet localities in the United States, Stanley Butte in Santa Teresa Mts., Arizona has produced specimens since at least the 1960s but in variable quality. But, when they are good, they are great, as I think you will agree when you cast your eyes over this wonderful cabinet-sized display specimen. Andradite crystals from Stanley Butte are quite distinctive in their overall combination of colour, lustre and form, and this magnificent larger specimen really exemplifies their best qualities. Upon it, perfectly formed, complex, modified rhombic dodecahedral crystals up to 1 cm across completely cover the upper display surface with massive, fine-grained Andradite forming the matrix too. The crystals are very glossy and dark brown in colour and stand up well against the very best garnet crystals from worldwide localities.
