Aesthetic specimen with a grouping of lustrous colorless Celestine crystals 3.2 cm on edge perched up beautifully from matrix. Brightly fluorescent and in very good condition. Very choice for the locality and species. The Cardinal Aggregate Quarry, located in Lime City, Wood County, Ohio, is a prominent industrial site situated within the expansive limestone and dolomite belts of the Great Lakes region. Geologically, the quarry excavates the Silurian-aged Lockport Dolomite and the underlying Rochester Shale, which were deposited in a shallow marine environment roughly 425 million years ago. These rock units are characterized by their high purity and structural integrity, making them ideal for high-quality construction aggregate and industrial applications. Historically, the quarry began operations in the early to mid-20th century to support the growing infrastructure needs of the Toledo metropolitan area and the wider Midwest. Under the management of Cardinal Aggregate and its predecessors, the site has been a steady producer of crushed stone for decades, with active excavation continuing into the present day. While primarily an industrial resource, the quarry is also known among regional mineralogists for occasional finds of crystallized fluorite, celestine, and calcite within vugs and fractures of the dolomitic host rock.
