Superb combination piece from the great Tsumeb mine, showing a specimen right out of the history books from early finds of the first oxidation zone. The prominent mineral here is the sharp, lustrous, prismatic crystals of Olivenite (technically reclassified as Zincolivenite now). Deep-green, they range up to about 8 mm in length. Interestingly, some of the terminations have a bit of beveled edge to them, giving the impression of the chisel-point terminations often seen on Adamites. These are crystals in the Adamite-Zincolivenite series and nomenclature has changed over the years, but they are labelled as Olivenite in most old sources and collection labels. The matrix below is a solid layer of gorgeous, sparkling green, finely-textured Arsentsumebite, for which Tsumeb is the TYPE LOCALITY. This is an aesthetic and high-quality large thumbnail that well-represents this historic mine. Laszlo Kupi photo.
