The Schneeberg area in Saxony, Germany is one of the most famous silver mining districts in the whole of Europe, with records dating back to at least the 15th century. Immortalized by the 'Silver Table' illustrated in a painting and from which a specimen survives in the Senckenberg collections in Dresden. Wire Native Silvers are known from Schneeberg too, but specimens are usually quite modest in size, especially so compared with this exceptional 10.3 cm long mass of fine intergrown curly Native Silver wires. Many of the wires are silvery-white and bright but equally many are tarnished with a fine historic-looking patina. This is an important Schneeberg Native Silver for someone looking to significantly enhance their historic collection of old-time Native Elements, or silvers. Ex Professor Werner Paar Collection, it comes with a very old label from R. Mockel in Schneeberg.
