Amphoterite - Meteorite Polished Section

A traditional geological, glass microscope slide, used for the study of rock using a transmitted light microscope. Featuring a 2.0 x 1.3 cm, thin slice of the Mexican Tuxtuac meteorite cover-slipped in glass. The fall, on 16 October 1975, was recorded by locals who recovered two main masses weighing a little over 4 kg in total. Geologically, this is a rare class of meteorite, formerly called Amphoterite, but now classified as an LL (Low iron and Low metal content) Olivine-Hypersthene Chondrite. The Tuxtuac meteorite is unusual in showing little brecciation and no dark veining, and displaying small metallic grains of Kamacite, Taenite and Tetrataenite. This thin section is well-made and in good condition but the original paper labels affixed to it appear to show staining from whatever glue was used to attach them. This does not affect the sample at all.
