Discovered in 1962 in a remote uninhabited part of South Australia, the Coonana meteorite was a 'find' rather than 'fall', meaning that it was not witnessed landing, but just found on the ground. It displays natural weathering from having been exposed to the surface atmosphere on Earth for a considerable, but undetermined time. This weathering takes the form of dark orange-brown iron oxides which extend throughout this small cut sample, weighing 4 g. The total weight of the Coonana Meteorite was 6.8 kg.
