Here is a remarkable and large crystal of glaucodot, a rare complex cobalt-iron arsenic sulfide (sulfosalt) from the classic locality of Håkansboda, Sweden. It likely dates to the late 1800s or early 1900s, to this famous mining location. This is perhaps the rarest of several crystal habits of the species and Paul treasured it as a shocking example, in both quality and size. It measures 4.2 cm in length and 2 cm across, displays excellent splendent metallic, silvery gray color and luster. It has definite orthorhombic crystallography and is super sharp on all prism faces and edges although it's incomplete on both ends. It is dotted with numerous, 1 mm isolated blebs of brassy, metallic, greenish yellow chalcopyrite along with several, 3 to 5 mm clusters composed of tiny (less than 1 mm) chalcopyrite crystals and 3 to 5 mm blebs of the same. The incomplete ends also show us that there are scattered inclusions of chalcopyrite within the crystal from when it formed. This is a killer crystal of glaucodot from Paul Stahl's exceptional rare minerals suite. A world class competitive miniature of an ultra-rare metallic species.
