This is an exceptionally rich and large example of one particularly rare silver species: fizélyite, a very rare lead-silver-antimony sulfide (sulfosalt) from the classic locality of Herja, Romania. Often unrecognized or mislabelled in old collections as semseyite, they have quite distinct and recognizable form when one knows what to look for among older collections as they come to light. These came out in the early to mid-1900s, and some even earlier, and are often confused with semseyite (a visually and chemically similar sulfosalt, but without silver) - although fizélyite is much rarer and has obvious differences to the eye when in the hand. This relatively large plate is rich with fizélyite as dull gray metallic, roughly formed prismatic crystals all over the display surface and sits on granular massive, nearly black tetrahedrite ("freibergite" or tetrahedrite subgroup that contain some silver) and accented by fine, white, dolomite crystals up one side and then covering the back of the piece. This is an excellent example of fizélyite! Ex. Paul Stahl collection. He specialized in superb rarities in display quality (relative to what they are) and spent decades collecting such sophisticated display specimens as you see here. This is one of the largest and finest examples we have seen over decades in the game; and only turn up in generational collections out of Europe.
