Quartz with Calcite, Siderite
Unknown Owner
Blue botryoidal crystallized quartz across one side of this siderite matrix with small crystals of scalenohedral calcite scattered throughout. This is the variety of the species often called chalcedony. In very good condition.Huttenberg in Carinthia, Austria, is one of the most historically important iron mining regions in Europe, with activity dating back to at least Roman times and continuing for many centuries. The deposits are associated with metamorphic rocks, particularly iron rich formations that were worked for hematite and related minerals. Mining was carried out through extensive underground workings and later surface operations, supporting a long tradition of iron production that contributed to regional industry and development. In addition to its economic significance, Huttenberg is well known among collectors for its mineral specimens, including well formed crystals of hematite, siderite, and other associated minerals. The combination of long mining history and distinctive mineralogy makes Huttenberg a classic locality in European mining and mineral collecting.
