Nice when backlit as seen in the picture and at the end of the video. The Denton Mine, located in Hardin County, Illinois, is part of the Illinois Kentucky Fluorspar District, a region historically important for the production of fluorite and associated minerals. Although mining in the district dates back to the 19th century, the Denton Mine itself opened in 1979 and operated until its closure in 1993. The mine consisted of underground workings that followed mineralized veins cutting through limestone host rock. While fluorite was the primary ore mineral, the mine also produced a variety of secondary minerals that are highly regarded by collectors, including calcite, galena, and sphalerite. Specimens from the Denton Mine are especially noted for their attractive color combinations and crystal forms, with fluorite often occurring in cubic crystals ranging from purple to yellow hues. Despite its relatively short period of operation, the Denton Mine is remembered as a notable late phase producer within the district, valued for both its industrial output and its collectible mineral specimens.
