Adamite

Attractive bluish green crystallized adamite across the front of matrix. In good condition.Lavrion in Attica, Greece, is one of the most historically significant mining districts in the world, with activity dating back to ancient Greek times when silver rich lead ores were extensively worked to support the economy of Athens. The deposits are associated with hydrothermal vein and replacement mineralization hosted in marble and other metamorphic rocks, where mineralizing fluids introduced lead, zinc, and silver along with a wide range of secondary minerals. Mining continued in various phases into the 19th and early 20th centuries, with both ancient and modern workings present throughout the district. Among the notable minerals found at Lavrion is adamite, a zinc arsenate that typically occurs as well formed crystals in shades of green, yellow, or colorless within the oxidized zones of the deposits. These crystals formed through the alteration of primary sulfide minerals under near surface conditions, and the locality is well known for producing a diverse suite of secondary mineral species.
