Dara-e-Pech, a well-known pegmatite field high in the upthrown mountains of Afghanistan, is known for its significant specimens of tourmaline, spodumene, and beryl. This 4.8 cm, single indicolite is a great example. Gemmy through-and-through with a very good, glassy luster, the color is one of the prettiest I have seen for an indicolite. Most indicolites are a deep blue best appreciated with strong backlighting, but this indicolite is so gemmy and such a pure blue that even incidental light will bring out every bit of this crystal's beauty. At 14 grams, this is a choice indicolite with good form and an aesthetic, near-perfect color. Better even in person.
