Some of the best prehnite specimens to reach the market in recent years are those that have been found in Mali. This large thumbnail specimen is a classic combination features a single, highly translucent, lime-green, botryoidal prehnite that displays perfectly atop two lustrous, deep green-black epidote crystals. The frosty prehnite is 1.6 cm across, and the largest of the prismatic epidotes is 2.1 cm. Many large specimens of these combinations came out several decades ago, but not many were in this size class nor did they display as well, from either side. To describe this small miniature as “sculptural” would be an accurate compliment. This is a quality and nicely-balanced piece in a size range that is hard to find, for this discovery of prehnite on epidote from Kayes Region of Mali.
