Peru is now the king of green fluorites as 2020-22 saw the discoveries of several small, but largely remarkable, fluorite pockets within the famous Atacocha mining district in Peru. At their best, the cuboctahedral fluorites in these specimens are perfectly GEMMY and a sublime shade of saturated green "mint jelly" green. In this cluster, the largest cuboctahedron is about 3.5 cm on edges, which translates to a transverse dimension of an impressive 4 cm. In classic preferential style, the fluorites on one end of this cabinet-sized specimen are associated with an array of sulfide crystal inclusions, which may include galena, jordanite, geocronite, and others. One cannot deny the added interest and aesthetics brought by the sulfides, as the piece presents dramatically when stood up at a vertical angle. The second largest Fluorite, itself a transparent gem, caps the specimen atop so that it glows in a case when backlit. Hefty at 543 grams.
