A very fine cluster of amethyst crystals from the world-class Jackson Crossroads Amethyst Mine near Atlanta, home to the finest amethyst in the USA and, at their best, a contender for worldwide status. This cluster is a classic for its perch on white quartz - which is considered the ultimate quality as it lends contrast. These were found in the early 2000s by Rodney Moore, previous mine owner. The luster is superb on these pristine crystals, the largest of which is 4.4 cm and doubly-terminated. Crystals range from gemmy to translucent/gemmy, and the coloration varies from a purplish-white to a deep, rich grape juice purple, depending on which crystal you are admiring at that moment. The shape is like a spray of flowers - Without question, it's a knockout aesthetic. Also unusual is that the large amethysts sit on a plate of clear quartz crystals, a combination that is less common than you would expect and found in only a few pockets here, even though it is the most desired matrix. Hold it in your hands and you can see the different characteristics of the crystals' form and color subtleties as they play against one other. From the outstanding collection of Sue and Al Liebetrau.
