For its combination of size and colour saturation I cannot see many other Elbaite tourmaline crystals coming close to this magnificent specimen. Yes, it is repaired and restored, but then the vast majority of larger tourmaline crystals are. However, standing at over 28 cm tall, this fully terminated crystal is statuesque and demands to be the centrepiece in any display, and with good directional lighting you will be rewarded handsomely in its beauty. Predominantly teal blue to electric blue in colour, it does show small areas of colour-zoning with a green tip and an orange band about a quarter of the way up from its base. Internally, its central part is the most translucent, showing stunning colour when backlit, but it responds well right along its entire length. A little pale pink micaceous Lepidolite is scattered over the prism surfaces near to its base, providing a nice contrasting in colour. Classic 'tourmaline' linear parallel grooves run up the entire length of the crystal and its undamaged termination is a smart three-sided pyramid with slightly stepped natural edges caused by the extensions of the vertical grooves. It comes with a custom-made acryllic Sunnywood display stand holding it in a perfectly upright pose.
