Malachite with Azurite

Unknown Owner
Attractive velvety green botryoidal crystallized malachite throughout matrix with deep blue botryoidal crystallized azurite. In good condition. Bisbee, Arizona, is one of the most famous historic copper mining districts in the United States, with major development beginning in the 1880s after rich copper deposits were discovered in the Mule Mountains. The Holbrook Mine was one of several important underground mines in the district and was worked for copper rich ore associated with the larger Copper Queen operations. Like other Bisbee mines, the Holbrook workings produced a wide variety of secondary copper minerals formed in the oxidized zones of the deposit. Fine specimens of minerals such as azurite, malachite, cuprite, and other copper minerals from the Bisbee district are highly valued by mineral collectors.
