Quartz
Banská Štiavnica (Schemnitz) is renowned for its historic amethystine Quartz crystals, that typically form beds of smaller crystals. These were, several centuries ago, considered the finest Amethyst known, but how times change. This very faintly amethystine Quartz is a fascinating individual crystal, or should I say, complex group of parallel crystals. Reaching 6.8 cm in length, this crystal is sceptred, with a more milky coloured 'stem' rising up out from a small area of sulphide and carbonate matrix. The Sulphides include gemmy small Sphalerite crystals, Galena and Chalcopyrite. Inclusions of all of these sulphides can also be seen inside the surface of the Quartz crystals too. The parallel Quartz crystals also show superb stepped faces and skeletal development too, making for a lovely complex piece. In fine overall condition.
