Azurite with Malachite after Azurite, Dolomite

Unknown Owner
Beautiful lustrous thick blue crystals of azurite across the top of a dolomite crystal matrix. Minor malachite is present as well. Attractive and in great condition.Bou Beker is a mining area in the Touissit District of eastern Morocco that has been worked mainly for lead and zinc ore. Mining in the district began in the early 20th century and several underground operations were developed to exploit the mineralized veins. The oxidized zones of these deposits have produced a variety of secondary copper minerals. Azurite occurs here as deep blue crystals and crystal groups that formed from the alteration of copper bearing minerals in the upper parts of the ore bodies. Specimens from Bou Beker are valued by collectors for their rich color and well formed crystals.
