TYROLITE
Farbište, near Poniky in the Banská Bystrica region of Slovakia is one of the best known Tyrolite occurrences outside of the Tyrol region in Austria. Known for decades, smaller specimens still periodically turn up on the old mine dumps but bigger display quality specimens like this beautiful piece, are from much older finds. Classic blue-green intergrown flat-lying radial areas of pearlescent Tyrolite occupy areas over a light brown country-rock matrix with minor blue Azurite and black Mn-oxide. Patches of Tyrolite also continue right around the specimen. A large and fine display specimen from this important Slovakian occurrence which, coincidentally, is just the otherside of a hill from the famous village of Libethen of copper phosphate fame. Ex Simone and Peter Huber Collection, no. 1210, acquired by them in 1979.
