NATIVE Silver ps. after Pyrargyrite

During the 1980s the Uranium mine No. 21 at Príbram in the Central Bohemia Region, Czechia produced some of the most unusual pseudomorphs of Native Silver after silver sulphosalts that the world has seen. Its Native Silver after Dyscrasite are well known, but less common are those where Native Silver replaces thicker, stout, Pyrargyrite crystals. This lovely miniature specimen shows this replacement really well, with crystals to 2.5 cm in length intergrown, but also fanning outwards with a small piece of rock matrix attached. The replacement is not total, or at least has not infilled all of the voids, with lots of pore space left behind with an etched appearance and layers of dark grey to black glossy ?Pyrargyrite remaining alongside the silvery-pink metallic Native Silver. This open texture makes the crystals a little fragile, but this is a really fine demonstration of this unusual replacement. Ex Hans Engelbrecht Collection, no. 3973.
