Stephanite with Pyrargyrite and Dolomite
Despite the Březové Hory deposit at Príbram having once been the richest silver producer in the whole of Europe and the town becoming a royal mining town because of it, specimens of crystallized silver ores are just so rarely seen from there in collections. This magnificent specimen is the exception. Not only does it bear extremely well-formed glossy, metallic, steely-grey Stephanite crystals up to 8 mm in size and clustered nicely within a cavity in contrasting pale cream coloured Dolomite, but it is accompanied by a wealth of old labels. The crystal-filled Stephanite-bearing cavity also contains Pyrargyrite in association, given away by its red internal reflections in darker grey masses. Away from this cavity the Dolomite vein extends outwards to massive dark brown Sphalerite. The four accompanying labels include two typed labels (A. Berger, Wein-Modling, 1870-1956; Bergdirektor Dipl.Ing TAUSCH , 1893-1970) and two older handwritten labels, one of which appears to be of considerable age (c. early 1800s). The specific provenance to Eusebi-Gang, or Eusebi Vein, add great additional detail and value. Ex Professor Werner Paar Collection.
