Classic specimen of witherite with a crystal grouping 5.0 cm in height embedded up on matrix with fluorite. Brightly fluorescent and in good condition. Classic material for this locality.The Minerva Mine No. 1 in Hardin County, Illinois, was part of the Illinois Kentucky Fluorspar District and was worked mainly during the mid 20th century for fluorite, along with lead and zinc. The deposit consists of mineralized veins in limestone that produced a wide range of mineral species. The mine is especially well known among collectors for witherite, a barium carbonate mineral that occurs as white to gray crystals and crystal aggregates.
