Hilarionite (Type Locality)
Hilarionite is an ultra rare hydrated iron arsenate and this mine is the type locality for the species in the famous and ancient Lavrion District in Greece. It was a new species approved in 2011 and has been only found in a handful of other localities worldwide since. This vibrant specimen consists of a myriad of tiny, less than 1 mm, botryoids (almost like tiny cauliflower-like heads) all over the top two-thirds of a thin plate of matrix. This is a very rich, colorful and excellent example of this very rare species from the notable Greece collection of collector Christos Spiromitros. It could also be trimmed into a number of small, very rich and fine, specimens.
