Chalcopyrite on Quartz$950.00

Wire transfers available, to set up
A superb, old-time, chalcopyrite-quartz combination piece from the famous Groundhog Mine at Vanadium, New Mexico. This rich sulfide specimen is densely covered with numerous, bright, slightly tarnished, brass-yellow chalcopyrite crystals on porcupine-like, frosted, translucent quartz crystals. The sharp chalcopyrite crystals are sharply formed from 0.5 to 1.6 cm in size and all of them have faint, but perceptible, striations on their faces. Their brassy, metallic luster and color is somewhat subdued to a bluish iridescence on some of the crystal faces. They are late in the paragenetic sequence as they are all perched nicely on the quartz crystals. There is also a very early growth of tiny, 1 mm, bright pyrite cubes that formed very early on which the quartz crystals have grown subsequently. This is from the personal collection of well-known NM field collector, Chris Cowan. It is, for the size and pristine condition, exceptional. Old material, from the 1980s or before.
