The Okorusu mine in Otjiwarongo District, Namibia was a fluorspar-producing openpit (several separate openpits) mine which allowed commercial mineral collecting in order to preserve some of the remarkable specimens found there. Some of which are so distinctive as to be uniquely beautiful in the world of Fluorite. Closed in 2014, the potential for new discoveries appears very low. This magnificent small cabinet display specimen presents one of the rarest iconic forms presented by Okorusu specimens. Sometimes called 'a cross', the crystallization of Fluorite has developed in such as way as to extend outwards like the points of a cross. However, not only that, but the already individually colour zoned (dark to pale purple) Fluorite crystals are overprinted centrally by a larger, darker purple, cubic outline set at 45 degrees to the other crystals. This mind-blowingly complex form was reportedly found between 2008 and 2009 in B Pit, although that is not documented specifically with this specimen. A true wonder of the mineralogical world. Careful sculpting of the back of the specimen has allowed backlighting to really accentuate the colour zoning. This specimen also comes with a custom-made acryllic Sunnywood display stand.
