This small cabinet sized specimen of hutchinsonite is an excellent example for the species. It is composed of numerous clusters of diverging sprays of thin prismatic hutchinsonite crystals, many of them doubly terminated like the prominent group that is off-center on the piece. Crystals in this particular group measure 1.5 cm in length which is quite large for the species. Other crystals on this exceptional piece range from a few millimeters to 1 cm. The hutchinsonites have a very bright metallic gray color and luster with a slight reddish hue to them, especially in bright light. The crystal groups contrast nicely with the light gray matrix that contains disseminated pyrite. This is an amazing specimen of this rare thallium-lead-arsenic sulfosalt.
