A lustrous sharply formed and gemmy crystal of sphalerite measuring to 0.5 cm are in size on matrix with metallic sartorite and pyrite. This is in very good condition. Classic material for this famous locality. The specimen comes with an antique label as shown at the end of the video and dates to the very early 20th century, if not the late 19th century.The Lengenbach Quarry in the Binn Valley of Valais, Switzerland is a famous mineral locality known for rare thallium bearing sulfosalt minerals. The quarry works a dolomite deposit that contains thin mineralized layers where numerous uncommon species occur. Systematic collecting and scientific study have been carried out there for many years under controlled conditions. The locality is well known among mineral collectors and researchers for producing many rare mineral species found in few other places.
