A beautiful cluster of lustrous gemmy rosy purple cubic crystals of fluorite, the largest measuring to 4.7 cm on edge. This is crystallized completely all around with no points of attachment. Slight chipping present as seen, this still in very good condition. Originally acquired by Harris through Ben Clement in 1957. Beautiful when backlit.The Hill Ledford Mine in Hardin County, Illinois was part of the Illinois Kentucky Fluorspar District, a region that became a major source of fluorite in the United States during the 20th century. The mine worked fluorite vein deposits hosted in limestone and produced fluorite along with associated minerals such as calcite, galena, and sphalerite. Underground mining operations supplied fluorspar used in the steel and chemical industries.
