Gypsum
An aesthetic grouping of lustrous gemmy gypsum crystals without matrix. This is in great condition. The specimen is figured in Rocks and Minerals magazine, volume 75, number two, page 99.The Bristol Mine near Crystal Falls in Iron County, Michigan was a small iron mining operation developed within the Menominee iron range of the Upper Peninsula. Mining activity in the area began in the late 19th century as companies explored and worked iron ore deposits hosted in Precambrian banded iron formation. The mine produced iron ore for regional iron and steel industries during the early period of development in the district. Operations later declined as richer deposits elsewhere were developed and many smaller mines in the range closed.
