Stibnite

Unknown Owner
A lustrous thick terminated crystal of of stibnite with minor quartz. In very good condition with slight micro-damage present as seen, still fine for the species and really choice for the locality and species. The Murray Mine in Nevada was a small scale mining operation developed during the late 19th and early 20th centuries when prospecting expanded across the western United States. Workings in the area followed hydrothermal veins hosted in volcanic and sedimentary rocks that contained base metal and precious metal mineralization. Like many Nevada mines of the period, production was intermittent and depended on metal prices and the size of the ore bodies discovered. Although the mine was not a major producer, it forms part of the broader history of mineral exploration and mining development in Nevada.
