The very rare copper arsenate hydroxide hydrate species Euchroite was discovered in the 1820s at Libethen (modern day Ľubietová) in Slovakia. It's name was chosen for the meaning 'beautiful colour' and specimens from that original locality remain the world's best examples of this species. Excavations during the late 1990s and early 2000s in the area of the original find turned up some well crystallized smaller specimens but this large cabinet specimen is an old-timer with many perfectly formed emerald-green to slightly bluish-green distinctive wedge-shaped to tabular crystals richly scattered across its large display face. These crystals reach up to 4 mm in length and stand out wonderfully against a very dark brown iron oxide coating upon its pale grey rock matrix. Under magnification they are even better, showing an opaque to translucent appearance combined with their remarkable colour. Ex Professor Werner Paar Collection (no. 545) with his handwritten label and accompanied by a very old (probably 19th century) handwritten label. A seriously impressive statement specimen of this very rare old-time classic Eastern European species.
