Arvada, Colorado, USAHere we have a world class gemmy saturated orange hessonite garnet from the Jeffrey Mine. For those who may not know hessonite is a varietal name for grossular garnets that exhibit a distinct orange coloration that is caused by iron oxide in the solid solution. Hessonite garnets actually have a lower hardness and density than other garnet varieties and was named “Hesson” which in Greek means “inferior” which is ironic considering how iconic these specimens have become among collectors. The Jeffrey mine is perhaps the finest source of Hessonite garnets in the world. This particular specimen has razor sharp edges and lustrous faces that show off beautiful growth striations. This specimen is in really great condition, I note no damage beyond the contacted periphery. Comes with a custom cut acrylic base.
