Transparent, sharp, petal-thin blades of bright, pinkish-red rhodonite crystals create this gorgeous bloom of a miniature. The rhodonites reach up to 1 cm in size, and their distribution and balance are just about perfect visually. They are associated with translucent-to-gemmy, well-formed quartz to 7 mm. What I initially though were smaller, white quartz crystals absolutely exploded with orange fluorescence, announcing in no uncertain terms that they were really calcites! The aesthetics are excellent, and this series of mines are not far from the well-known Huanzala locality. A good reference would be The Mineralogical Record: 28/4, 56-57. From finds of the early 2000s.
