The older finds at Córrego Frio (1940s-1950s), the TYPE LOCALITY for brazilianite, produced high-quality crystals that tended more towards a 'diamond-shaped' habit than later finds. You can also see the glassy gemminess and the intense color and luster here - also, never replicated despite more discoveries at other locations to this day. 2.1 cm tip-to-tip, this fine crystal has glassy luster, sharp form, and is GEMMY throughout. The yellow color is excellent, and the contacting along one half can be greatly minimized by the display orientation. Historically, the best of these specimens are combination pieces, with the brazilianite in association with white albite crystals and star mica crystals. That is exactly what we have here, with the largest mica crystal having 2.4 cm exposed. These combinations have a renowned aesthetic, thus making the best of these highly sought-after for their distinct beauty and rarity. Better in person, this small-cabinet sized piece even has three distinct colors of fluorescence as a bonus. Such gemmy, sharp, intensely colored brazilianites are few and far between.
