Tucson, Arizona, USAThis scintillating 'Blister Copper' (unusual botryoidal variety of Chalcopyrite) is sure to catch the eye of whoever walks past it. It is an absolute treasure, a masterpiece of mineralogical beauty, and certainly something which we rarely see in such stunning quality. Most 'Blister Copper' specimens are old, having been first found in mines like Cook's Kitchen during the mid- to late-18th century, but some were still being encountered in mines during the 19th century. This one has no more detailed provenance other than "Cornwall", but I think that everyone would agree that it is exceptionally fine, with the most amazing burnished bronze patina. On the reverse, a thin layer of very well formed sharp dark grey microcrystals of Tennantite coat the Chalcopyrite, which has small Quartz crystals embedded within it too. The presence of Tennantite might possibly help with narrowing done a potential source. It has been repaired along one end but is a most impressive larger display quality Blister Copper - a true Cornish classic. Ex Martin Kershaw Collection, no. 472.
