This single, 8.3 cm long prismatic Elbaite tourmaline from the famous Agua Branca pegmatite at Coronel Murta in Minas Gerais state, Brazil is a doubly-terminated floater, complete all round and with no obvious point of attachment. Not only is it a great size and wonderfully formed, but it presents a gorgeous bi- or arguably tri-colour with superb translucency, responding extremely well to backlighting. Internally, it is a rich strawberry-red colour but this is veiled with pale teal blue edges and a more intense teal blue flat pinacoid termination with a pronounced triangular growth texture upon the surface. At its other end, a three-sided pyramidal termination is enhanced by a deeper raspberry-red zone covered with a gooseberry green coloured layer. It comes with a custom-made acryllic Sunnywood display base which has been designed to show off the superb colour-zoning at its pinacoid termination, but this does mean that its classic 'tourmaline' three-sided pyramidal termination is hidden as its base. The terminations and sides of this fine crystal are in excellent condition. It does have one recorded repair.
